Sermon; The 11th Sunday after Pentecost: "Food that Endures for Eternal Life"
Date: August 5, 2018
Liturgical Day: The 11th Sunday after Pentecost; Proper 13B
During this year of Mark, we take a mid-summer journey through the “Bread of Life” section of St. John’s Gospel. In this week’s passage the crowd, both marveling at having been fed by Jesus in the wilderness and longing for another meal, follow him across the sea to Capernaum. Jesus challenges them to set their sights higher: not longing for another meal, but longing for that which is eternal; for that which gives life to the world. It is only this bread, the presence of Jesus himself, that allows one to experience a life in which there is no hunger or thirst.
