Sermon; The 16th Sunday after Pentecost: "God's Work. Our Hands."
Date: September 9, 2018
Liturgical Day: The 16th Sunday after Pentecost; Proper 18B
Today ELCA Lutherans all across our country have been invited to make their way into the communities in which they live, to participate in acts of service to their neighbors. The people of Saint Peter have been doing this every year since the tradition began as a 2013 celebration of the ELCA’s 25-year history. As Jesus bears the power and presence of God into the lives of a Syrophoenician woman (and her daughter) and and a deaf man of the Decapolis, he models what the life of faith looks like.
At Saint Peter we like to think of ourselves as “welcomed into God’s love just as we are, and sent into God’s world as a reflection of Christ.” Today is an opportunity for us to live into that description. Loved and graced by God during this hour, we extend ourselves in love and compassion to our neighbors. God’s work. Our hands. Indeed!
