Sermon; The 20th Sunday after Pentecost: "Let the Children Come to Me"
Date: October 7, 2018
Liturgical Day: The 20th Sunday after Pentecost; Proper 22B
In this Sunday’s Gospel lesson, Jesus speaks about marriage, divorce and remarriage. Pastor Dave reflected on what this might mean for married people in his weekly devotional message and in a 2015 sermon. But this weekend’s Gospel is not just about marriage — it is also about the family. And specifically, it is about children. Jesus repeatedly emphasizes how important it is to welcome children into the faith that we share, and the kingdom of God that we experience. Research shows that the more adults who do this in a young person’s life, the more likely they are to become become caring, responsible and productive adults. It would be wise for all of us to consider the role we might play in the lives of the young people we know.
