Sermon; The Second Sunday after the Epiphany: "And His Disciples Believed"
Date: January 20, 2019
Liturgical Day: The Second Sunday after the Epiphany; Year C
There are legendary stories about weddings that have gone wonderfully and weddings that have gone terribly. Jesus, his mother and his disciples attend a wedding in Cana that is about to go terribly. When the wine runs out, threatening embarrassment to the hosts and an end to the festivities, Jesus intervenes and saves the day. He transforms the wedding, and more importantly he transforms his disciples, some of whom come to believe in him that day. This is the central purpose of St. John’s Gospel, and it is the central purpose of our ministry today: to transform people in the name of Jesus, and draw them into God’s grace.
